I like fish, especially the oily kind, but my BIL's biggest compliment for a fish dish is "this is great, it doesn't taste like fish at all". Sad really.

holy crap i just noticed the banana, that is a massive fish
This thread is giving me an idea. They have those mini-bananas in supermarkets that are like 3-4 inches long.
I should take a picture of my junk next to one of these mini-bananas "for reference"...

I'm sorry for your little problem. 🙁

Marry a girl with small hands. 🙂

Red snapper is generally thought of as one of the best eating fish. I tend to agree. One of the most boring to catch though.

I've tried quite a few over the years, but the only one that I've liked was swordfish at a bar. I haven't seen any place else that served it though.

Swordfish is endangered thanks to over-fishing and in very limited supply, plus what IS available tends to be very expensive.

It's a "meaty" fish with a much firmer texture then say cod for example so you might actually enjoy some types of shark which have a similar texture. (although that's starting to see the same issues with pricing)

Hmm, never had Red Snapper. When i comes to seafood i like most fish but not much else.

I know Mako's taste good. We were given one once kinda last minute. Took it back to the house we were staying at & cooked it on the grill. One of the best meals ever!

back in the day they would sell shark as "swordfish". some people actually prefer shark over swordfish. either way you want to avoid swordfish, as it is near/at the top of the foodchain the mercury levels are as high as it gets.

One more reason to avoid any large predatory fish unfortunately ... too bad because swordfish steak is mighty tasty on the grill!

And while people have been eating shark for as long as they've been catching them they were not always commonly available. I can recall a local fish market making a bid deal out of "Mako-steak" at 1/4 the price of swordfish which at the time was relatively cheap itself.

Now "shark-steak" is priced as a premium item itself.

My parents tried to force me to eat red snapper as a child. It smelled like ammonia. I thought my parents were f'in' insane for eating something that smelled like poison. They did the full-blown "you're sitting there until you eat it ==> it will be waiting for you at breakfast" thing. I won that one and they threw it away (rather than eat it themselves, point to ironwing). I've never eaten fish again.

that's funny. Red Snapper is good though. I don't generally eat fish because I hate "fishy taste," but there are some that are great, and snapper is one of those.

and yeah....I've tried and tried. I hate being squeamish about food, and I'm generally not, but for the most part there are a lot of water-based creatures that I will not eat. ...it's just a flavor that I can't deal with for the most part.
