i had a teacher who's last name was Mr. Dam. people would make fun of him and refer his last name to the word "damn." obviously there are other associations for the same word, like river dam or beaver dam, for example.

society just likes to take words and names and distort them. all in all, that's why racism exists and such things like hate and negative critism towards good accomplishments.

personally, I think the op has issues and can't figure out for himself that names have other cultures different than what he grew up with.

hmmm, you also have to consider that if you're going to be raising a child in a culture where a certain word is synonomous with every evil and wicked, then naming your child that may not be the wisest of choices....

While I've come across some weird names, I don't think I've ever come across a lucifer before.

However, I have seen some very strange spellings.

E.g.

Chelci - pronounced as Chelsea
Kc - pronouced, well, I think you can probably guess. But, just so you're clear, the kids full, formal name was Kc.
