I was always a proponent of unlimited data (AT&T)...

I recently added an aux input to my car so I could play music from my iPhone on my 45 min each-way commute to/from work every day (plus any other time I'm in the car... regular radio sucks :p), and lately I've been just streaming Pandora (with 3G Unrestrictor). My billing cycle ends 12/26, and in a month doing that every day, plus maybe an average of 1 hour per day streaming Pandora at work as well (in addition to moderate-heavy 3G browsing), I'm currently sitting at 1489MB with 2 days left. I have the unlimited plan, but I'm seriously debating dropping it to 2GB since I figure I'm not hitting it.

I don't tether, so I can see that being a pretty major reason for those with unlimited data to stay on unlimited, but if this is about as heavy as I get, is there a reason other than just "if I drop it now, I lose the ability to go back to unlimited if I ever would need to" to stay on the unlimited plan? How much data do you heavy iPhone users use per month?

You can set it up to SMS text you when you are getting close, and going to 3GB is only $5 more than unlimited so if you do go over it's not an insane amount of money. $60 less a year isn't a huge savings but it's still something.

It's a bit hard to pull the trigger because there's no way to go back but I've never regretted my decision to drop unlimited when I realized that I hadn't used 2GB in a whole year... I fit in the 200MB plan through extensive use of WiFi.

As pm said, it is only $60 extra per year and once you go to the 2GB plan, you can't go back. Stay with the unlimited plan

I don't tether and can still crack 5GB, mostly going through podcast and streaming audio, damn ESPN app.

I use Slacker and I was hitting 1.2gb/month. When I stopped for November and Dec, I dropped to 0.7-0.8gb. I really don't get how Android sucks up so much data. I don't do that much. Maybe that's why my battery life blows.

Honestly....never give up unlimited if you have it. Data is ever increasing and you can bet that wireless carriers are trying to find ways to charge you more for it.

Yup, you never know if you're going to want to do something else with the phone in 6 months from now that uses a lot more data. Stay on the grandfathered plan as long as they let you.
