Since when did they get the Wii HBC working in the virtual Wii mode on the Wii U? Does it function exactly like it did on the Wii
I played Mario, had an NES, SNES, and N64 growing up, but I still don't have much nostalgia for Nintendo. I'd have to force myself to play a new Mario game. I kind of wish I had more nostalgia for that stuff. A lot of my friends do and they get excited about that stuff, but I can't seem to care. I did buy a 3DS when they first came out to play Ocarina of Time on, but didn't even get an hour in before thinking this game sucks, wtf, get on with the story already, I know how to shoot a mfing bow, no I don't want to fish!
This is me. Grew up with them but now prefer more killing. I had not played donkey kong of any sort for years until Xmas though on the wii and it was really quite good. I got the wii u because some other household members are more likely to play something with Mario than with a hooker killing mad man. Looking forward to Mario based on what artmicion just said.
The comment above about a wii u on a trip with a converter, wow. I had not thought of that use, but I can really see it now with the tablet controller. Great idea.
I felt some nostalgia conquering me this weekend and i'm missing the old Final Fantasy games I played so many times in my youth. The games that got me hooked to RPGs and gaming in general. I must have completed Final Fantasy 2 (FF4) at least a couple dozens of time and everytime I wanted to ebat my time. Last game I can remember I was just under 11 hours with a full playthrough.
Then I played Final Fantasy Mystic Quest. Simpler game but filled with flavor and epic adventuring.
Then came Final Fantasy 3 (FF6) which became my new favorite and still is.
Last saturday I was with my brother and he just bought a PS4...so I was freaking tempted to get one too so we could play some games online.
But I then saw the Wii U and checked what it could do and what games I could get on the eShop...all those games are there...
So yeah...someone offered me half what thh Wii U is worth for my PS3...tempting.
I've wanted a PS4 too, but after a year with no games I've changed my mind. I might get a Wii U for Monster Hunter and Zelda.
Mario Kart 8...my girlfriend is harassing me to play all the time which is great!
Darksiders 2 is a sweet discovery for me, can't stop playing that game which mix RPG elements (loot, skill points, XP, etc), action packed combats like in God of War and exploration/puzzles similar to Zelda and Tomb Raider games. A sweet sweet mix of awesome!
Super Mario 3D World, which came with the delxe set, is another great game.
I also bought Breath of Fire 2 and Golden Sun on the eShop...$8 is quite a high price for those games but they were part of my childhood/adolescence so nostalgia took over and made me click "Buy". Plays great on the Wii U gamepad while your SO want to watch TV or Netflix.
Great console with a bit more personality.
I dunno if it's just me, but that game was a total disappointment. Well, perhaps more so because of how I now play Mario games.
Fiance and I like to drink while we play Mario games. Simple rules that ends up with us having a blast and getting inebriated. You die, swig of your beer, game over beat a level, drink of your hard liquor.
Anyways we prepped for the night same rules for Mario 3D World. World 3 and we've had maybe half our beer. The game is just waaaaaaay to easy. Almost not fun it's so easy.
Bring back Sunshine/Galaxy difficulties.
The last several Mario's have been like that, even on 3DS.
It's almost embarrassing. In NSMB and NSMB 2, as well as Super Mario 3D Land, I'd have something like 50-60 lives. Throw in the "Oh, you having trouble with this level? Here's a free invincibility suit."
I remember in the 16-bit Mario games how having extra lives in the double digits made you feel like you were doing great! Now I'm really sucking if I ever have less than 40...
Perfect for drunk play then!
Me and my gf played A LOT of Mario Kart 8 this weekend! We almost got drunk with cheers everytime one of us got the first place. Awesome and fun game faithful to the series!
$5-8 is a goddamn robbery. I own most of those games already on their original platform, and while I personally don't have an issue dragging out the original for a quick play through when Zelda 1 is like $8 my wallet locks up.
Yeah, stuff in the eShop can definitely be overpriced. Especially the Virtual Console stuff. It's also curious that Nintendo took away a whole bunch of systems on the Wii U's VC. No N64, no Genesis. If you want to buy or play those, you have to do it through the Wii Menu.

the games in the eshop are horribly overpriced. only way to get a decent deal is to buy the eshop cards when there's a discount involved. something like a $10 bb gc for $50 purchase. stack that with one of their sales.
One of the surprising benefits of a Wii U is that it's pretty amenable for use on road trips. It's energy consumption is shockingly low (32w during gameplay I believe, compared to 100+ for PS4/XB1). You can hook it up to a power inverter connected to your car and play off the Gamepad pretty easily.

I dont like the Wii, its fun, but you cant get as serious with the games, I just feel like its more for kids.

There's also the Hyperdimension Neptunia games in PS3.No JRPGs for PS4 or Wii U right now. Closest thing you're going to get is PS3 with Ni no Kuni and Tales series.
You'll have to wait for FF XV, KH III, and Xenoblade.
Nintendo fans get very defensive over this kind of thing, although you're absolutely right as you intended it, which I think is the "subject matter" is not as serious, and it's not. There is a dearth of violent and mature games like GTA on the Wii U. From this perspective it is certainly a console targeted to a younger demographic. Arguing differently is naive, and inevitably draws the sarcastic "It's childish to want to play violent video games" response.I dont like the Wii, its fun, but you cant get as serious with the games, I just feel like its more for kids.
