I am seriously thinking of buying this 19" Daytek monitor today.

I allready have two Daytek monitors and I think they are pretty good. This will be my first truly flat monitor and I think I found a real deal #$335.00 Canadian or $215.00 US.

Have you ever had a Daytek monitor?

Check out the specs and let me know what you think.

Thanks.

It's made by Daewoo, one of the bankrupt companies in Korea & currently going through a sale process of its companies. Personally, I would not touch any of Daytek's produts with a 10 ft. pole as its product quality and customer service is one of the worst amongst Korean mfgs. (I have been involved with the sale of the company as a financial consultant). Your mileage may vary but for a few more dollars, I am sure you can find a much more dependable and higher quality product.

I have a simple rule. If I haven't heard of the company, they probably suck. "Daytek"(aren't they a stock trading site?) is on that list.

I had a Daetek monitor on one of my first PC's. It worked fine for about 2 years. Then one day, it started smelling funny, and smoke started coming out of the back and my picture started shifting off the screen...

edit: For a decent budget monitor, try looking into KDS. I've been using a 17 inch Trinitron one for a while now, and it works just fine and it's color is nicer than the majority of standard CRT's out there from what I've seen.

I'd be wary of KDS's Avitron line. Basically they buy up the tubes that Sony rejected as unfit for their own units. I tried a 19" KDS Avitron and it was nowhere near as good as a genuine Sony.

I happen to be using one of those right now - paid CN$395 for it 3 months ago. It has been a very decent performer, with good ergonomics and very good picture quality.

At a max 96kHz it is a bit limited in terms of horizontal scan frequency, but I've run it occassionally at 160Hz w/o problems. One quirk: the screen will blank periodically, as if it were entering a power saving state - but it always snaps back on.

Well I got the monitor yesterday. My personnal experience with Daytek has been very good so for the price I thought, what the hell!

I'm totally satisfied with it, beautiful colors and no more distorted lines.

Will give you updates if the thing explodes or something.
