Are you thinking what I'm thinking?

Now, before anyone flames me, I don't think it'll work. I mean, there's bacteria and all kinds of other things to consider. I realize that.

But man, I'd love to try it. Fish budget may have to increase slightly, though.

You'll need to get smaller fishes, gold fishes will cause major damage to your computer. ;):D

Why can't you have both? Compromise with her.

tropical fish? This would be a horrible idea, tropical fish live in WARM water. You don't want warm water going over your CPU....

that what i thought at first too. I guess it could work, as long as the temp remains fairly constant and agreeable.

But certainly a 10 gallon tank would warm up from the CPU. I could keep it at constant temp by running RC5.

Somebody stop me before I do something that freaks my wife out.

well look into filters....from the tank to your computer...it might elimiate some of the bacteria.

Just what I was thinking.

Dammit, this started as a joke to me! Everybody, stop helping me solve the engineering problems and talk some bloody sense into me before I get served divorce papers!

Sure, you're helping, but not in a good way.

Finally, someone who's thought process is even more flawed than my own.

Forget all the bacteria and such - just drop the radiator in the fishtank, and use the fishtank as a giant heatsink to distribute the heat. Run a closed loop system to your computer to cool it, and that way you won't have to worry about algae in your cooling lines.

PS - tell your wife that this is a good idea, because Jonah said so

I'm going to be the first one to say this isn't worth trying. Now I have never run a water cooled setup, but I used to have a 30 some gallon fish tank. Tropical fish don't like variations in temperature. One or two degrees max and I recall the temp they liked was around 68-72 degrees F. Here's what you don't know. I did have a nice filter, which you might think would keep the cpu clean. It won't. Both the in and the out tubes will get lined with this goo. Odds are that goo will line the top of your cpu and act as an insulator.

Just get the fish and make your wife happy! :)

Hmm, now that's an idea.

You definitely can't use fishtank water...besides, don't tropical fish typically live in salt water? Salt corrodes.

In the aquarist's sense of the word, Tropical Fish categorically refers to freshwater fish, but not goldfish or koi.
