A very Merry Christmas to you as well. ():)

"And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men."

That's the meaning of Christmas, Charlie Brown

Christmas came about as the Catholic church wanted to hijack pagan holidays. Protestant religions in the 19th century actually condemned celebrating the holiday.

A local Jehovah's Witness said that Christmas was done to make Christianity more "marketable" in a time when it was still young, so they incorporated some of the old traditions like the winter festivities - and that the big deal with Jesus wasn't his birth, but his death. (That's of course why we celebrate it with rabbits that hide eggs filled with candy.)

Best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low stress, non-addictive, gender neutral, winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most joyous traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, but with respect for the religious persuasion of others who choose to practice their own religion as well as those who choose not to practice a religion at all;

Additionally, a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling, and medically uncomplicated recognition of the generally accepted calendar year 2010, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions have helped make our society great, without regard to the race, creed, color, religious, or sexual preferences of the wishes.

(Disclaimer: This greeting is subject to clarification or withdrawal. It implies no promise by the wisher to actually implement any of the wishes for her/himself or others and no responsibility for any unintended emotional stress these greetings may bring to those not caught up in the holiday spirit.)

D1gger, I find your use of the term "sexual preference" to be offensive. Please, think of the children. (In a non-pedophile sort of way.)

Those people who always feel like explaining why Christmas is not about the celebration of Jesus' birth are the same people who rationalize feelings like love and anger down to the chemical reactions in their brains.
