I Want to Watch TV on My PS3

any options? i want to watch football this season.

i just recently canceled my cable tv because there's never anything on tv. i download most of the shows i want to watch and have a netflix account.

i decided it was more economical to pay for just cable and a netflix account rather than pay for tv service i barely ever use, especially when i don't get the movie channels to watch the shows i watch.

This would be great if it's possible. I'm canceling our DirecTV subscription in October to save some cash.

I'm with you bro. There's got to be some way to do this. I have a HD Homerun running on my network with my PS3 plugged into it. Also my PS3 is running a hacked 3.55 firmware. There's got to be a way to stream that HD Homerun stream.

don't you need a tv feed into the HD Homerun? OP cancelled his cable tv i thought.

I pull it from OTA which I assume the OP can do too, it's free. I also want to figure out how to stream the feed to my new touch pad.

ok, someone explain what this hd homerun thing is and what ota is... kinda out of the loop.

and, no, my ps3 isn't jailbroken.

Hulu+ works but you have to subscribe to the service. Also, I thought I read somewhere that they don't have as much content streaming to a console vs streaming through your computer but I might be wrong.

can't watch football, though, can you?

I'm with ya buddy. As soon as there's some way to reasonably watch all the sports I want to watch, I'm ditching my cable box.

You might try that. It is more of a middle man that just takes all the crap you can stream off the web and makes it a hell of a lot easier to use on the PS3. I know there were a bunch of sports things on it but some you will have to pay for to use.

Use Wabbit Ears into a MythTV. Another option is to use MediaPortal, in fact out of the box, this supports streaming to IOS devices. Sage I understand uses XBMC as a front end, so there are 3 options there, none of them supported on the PS3 for "livetv". The PS3 will work with "transcoded" video that it records, but that must be scripted in all cases and isn't live.

Looks like you AND I bought the wrong device. Xbox will connect to Sage natively for liveTV these days.

How important is "live" to you? Typical mythtv transcoding gets to my share about 18 hours after it records in a nice mkv.

hd homerun is a box that takes tv in and does ethernet out so you can stream the tv signal to any device on your network.

OTA = over the air tv signal which can be picked up with a hd antenna.

considering most football games other than MNF are on network TV, you don't even need cable to watch most games.

the thursday night games can be found on NFL network which also streams them online for free. however the streaming version of the game is pretty awful. it's 75% of these douche bags in the studio talking about plays as they are happening, and then say shit like 'well this just happened, lets go check it out' then they show a few plays, then go back to the studio.

maybe i should just get an hd antenna... i'll miss the espn games, though :/

Your only chance for that would be to get an ESPN 3 account for free off a friend who has comcast. My brother has comcast and he was able to sign up like 5 additional emails to access ESPN 3 so he gave me one.

then apparently there is stuff you would watch on cable tv...

yeah, there is... like occasional football games. not worth $50 extra per month when just about every hd channel is running some bullshit reality show 24/7 about some dumb sluts doing dumb slut shit while their douchebag love interests do dumb douchebag shit.
