I only care about the HTC Touch Pro right now.

I'm lookin for either one of those or a Sony Ericcson Xperia X1, HTC's other badass phone coming out soon.

I can't justify an iPhone over my BlackJack II. I like my real QWERTY keyboard and proper 3G.

My old iphone is just fine, and I'm not going to shell out $200 for essentially a faster modem (and the right to pay $10 more per month) but I do like my iphone. Way better interface than the Blackberry Pearl that people around here get as work phones (and that's the best smartphone UI I've seen other than the iPhone).

From what I saw the modem isn't even that much faster. IIRC they were managing to pull 400 kbps on the 3G iPhone; most 3G WinMo phones can pull 1 Mb+, and can be tethered.

I just saw the speed ratings too and I was surprised. My q9c can easily churn > 1 Mbps when I'm in Boston.

Yup, from Walt Mossberg on WSJ:
"I got data speeds mostly ranging between 200 and 500 kilobits per second"

Highest I've ever seen my BJ2 pull is ~1.2Mbps when tethered (150 kb/s). Usually it hovers around 800-900 kbps.

I like tech and gadgets just as much as the next nerd, but why do people get so wrapped up in this hype???

I think the phone is cool, but not groundbreaking in any way. I dunno man, maybe I'm the exception to the norm, but I have zero desire to own this phone. Especially considering they'll have the newer one out in 6 months time anyway.

Exactly this. Plus, I'd be owning an...Apple...product. *shudders*

I'll probably get one when the lines die down. It was a great run with my BBerry, but it's about for it to go.

I'll be getting one for me and one for my wife, both 16GB.

We both want it mostly for the internet access on the go and nothing else out there does this as well as the Iphone.

it is groundbreaking, I've had regular phones, Smartphones, I've either owned or used about 50 different mobile devices in the past 10 years. When I got on an iPhone and was surfing the actual web, not Mobile Internet on my Motorola Q where most web sites wouldn't even load. But the honest to goodness real Internet, I was blown away. It is groundbreaking to have the full Web, no other phone comes close, not even the N95 or Sony Ericsson's offerings.

iPhone is one of of the products where the hype was actually understandable. It could be better, lack of A2DP is a WTF thing, and a few other issues. But when you look at the positives I can see why people want this phone so bad.

I wonder how long before a competitor actually comes out with a handset that has the Web in all it's glory.

I prefer having the REAL internet over having proper 3G.

I refuse to ever own a motorola phone again after going thru 3 RAZR's

i've gotta say the iphone has a slick touch screen ui that wtfpwns my nokia n95 8 gig. browsing on the iphone easily surpasses browsing on the n95. that alone is what makes it cool imo. obviously feature wise, a lot of other phones will beat it, but user experience is king.

my only complaint is that the keyboard kind of sucks. i like having tactile feedback. i wish there were a touch screen phone that also had a keypad. i know that'd look super tacky and weird, but i'd prefer that to just touch screen alone.

while the iphone is good, this new one isnt jumping at me for some reason. 3G has been here forever, and still on att? noooooooooo way, and especially since att is being greedy and upping their monthly rates. screw that. besides, firmware 2.0 is for all iphones and ipod touches, so theres nothing new software-wise.

$30 sero (going up in price soon for all new customers) + treo 700p (going to be htc touch pro when it comes out) on sprint FTW.
