Anyone know the details on what the procedure is to visit someone incarcerated? I have a really really good friend who got locked up due to drugs and some really bad crap. I hear he is doing well in there and that he is going to be out in about two years. I don't think any of his friends visit him.

Anyhow, anyone know if there are prisoners just waiting to try and rip your head off or anything? What's the normal procedure? Anyone here know?

I think it varies depending on prison, so first I'd find out which prison he's serving time at and Google their contact info.

Contact them and ask them what their procedure is. Bring your friend some ciggarettes, and whatever else they can use.

call the prison and ask when they have visitation, and ask them about the details. I had a friend that i visited a few times while he was in prison. They had Saturday visitations and you could only bring certain things. Their was a sign before you entered that told you the rules.

Well once you have the visiting hours.

Basically you go to the prison, fill out a form, give them your id. Better make sure you dont have any outstanding warrants. You probably wont have any contact with any other prisoners. Most prisons you only get to see them through a glass window.

Call the prison and setup a time to visit (or how ever they do it at that particular prison). Then you show up and at a setup you and all the visitors are escorted back to the visiting room. You don't have to worry about losing your head, they keep plenty of guards around and if you were a high risk inmate they would not let you be visiting with anyone unless its over the phone. And do not bother taking anything unless they tell you its okay. You can get in serious trouble for bring in cigarettes and such (at least the prison I worked at..)
