I have this software that allows you to use your PC as a remote file server.
It's an http file server.

Basically I can dump any file into it and give someone my IP address, they connect to me and I upload to them the file.

NOW here is the problem, Just recently this is no longer working.
I beleive it has to do with windows and some recent updates maybe.
We both use XP PRO SP2 and have all current updates applied.

What happens is the transfer starts and goes to about 1meg then stops.

Now obviously we are sending big files, thats why we're not using email or something like that.

Just last night I was trying to send him a file that was 540meg and it wouldn't work?

Does any one know whats happening?

Is it windows stopping us from doing this?

Are there any 3rd party software apps we could try to overcome this?

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks

** I would like to do something very easy also, nothing complicated. the software I use now is free and very simple, drag a file to it and its ready to go.**

Apache2Triad is much like your IIS service, I assume that's what you're using.

Once installed, all you have to do is place the files you wish to share in the "htdocs" folder which is easily acessible. Then...everything should work.

You'll probably have to turn off IIS first if you want to continue using port 80, or whatever port you're using.

AHHH i don't think I know what llS is??

Basically all i'm doing is hosting a file inside this free app....give someone my IP address and they open it in a windows explorer window....MY file shows up and they click save and download it.

But it's not working any more because of the large file sizes.

Will this Apache2Triad be similar and do this also?

Apache will allow you to do exactly this. People often host websites on their server, much like I do. All you'd have to do is put your IP address into the browser address bar and they'll have access to your files.

If your IP was 127.0.0.1, they'd just have to put in 127.0.0.1/movie.avi
