I'm not familiar with AMD's quad-cores, but assuming they are anywhere near the performance of Intels' quads, then I see nothing wrong with your CPU or memory for L4D2. I run a Core2Duo 2.2 GHz with 4 GB of memory and L4D2 runs fine.

I'm using an NVidia 9600GSO for video. The weak spot in your system seems to be your ATI 4350.

Upgrading a "department store" brand machine (Dell, Gateway, HP, etc.) can cost more than building a good one from scratch, especially since you'll probably want a bigger power supply to go with a better vid card.

One thing that will speed up your machine is to upgrade to Windows 7. It's simply faster and better engineered than Vista. If you're a student with an e-mail address at your school, you can get a legal copy for $30 through Microsoft's student discount program.

If you don't want to do that, sell your machine as it is, spend some time researching good components and good deals on them on these forums and elsewhere. You'll spend about the same amount of money, and you'll have a much better machine, as well as an understanding of how it goes together.
