Work hard and take good vacations with pay. That way, if you get wanderlust, you will have a permanemt home to return to as oppsed to your scenario of wandering permanently. :p

If/when you do travel, where will you visit?

i did it, dropped out of college and worked my way to hawaii stayed for a year, hopped a sailboat to tahiti, came back to the mainland, travelled throughout the u.s., canada and mexico, ran out of money in new york city, worked to get money to bum around europe, ended up in ca and finished up college at the ripe old age of 30. i wouldn't change it if i could, great experience, but, i also wouldn't recommend it to everyone. if your going to do it, i strongly recommend that you have a long term plan for returning to college, and stick to it. like i said it was a great experience but, i don't know if i would be saying that if i didn't complete college. not that completing college is a guarantee for finding a good job, but it sure didn't hurt. throughout my life, i've been very fortunate in that i've found myself in the right places at the right times and/or possessed the ability to realize when a good opportunity was being presented to me. to sum it up, it wasn't easy but it is do able, and can be a great experience provided it is done right.

Get your degree and spend the summer after you graduate in Europe. Or marry some rich guy and take a month-long honeymoon sailing the south pacific or carribean. Just make sure you satisfy your longing for travel before you have any little eakers.

I'm thinking about doing it after I graduate. Nine more classes (ugh) after this semester and I'm done. I don't really want to go immediately into a career, so I might take some time just to travel the world and see things, kind of focus myself for my career.

Yo Ma-ma, my cousin is doing that. He's going to the Phillipines in the Peace Corps, and he's planning on travelling all over SE Asia, because they get big blocks of time off.

Marcvs' idea was my original plan. But I won't have enough money to go now. I might be able in August, but not in June Like I planned :(

late.

All I can say is DO IT!

I went for six weeks last August all over Europe (UK, France, Italy, Switzerland, Hungary, Austria, Germany, and Netherlands) and had the time of my life. It was a larger learning experience than any class ever was.

One essential you need to bring with you though is an open mind. It got really annoying to hear people complaining about everything, and how it's "not done right here, not like at home." Other countries do things differently, not inherently bad or worse. Go, absorb yourself in their culture as much as possible and you will get a hell of a lot more out of it.

Eakers, you will only go if you make it a priority in your life. And do it now before career and kids make it near impossible.

Check out Council Travel if your a student or under 26. Website has discounted Airfare, Internation ID cards to get you discounts all over the world etc. Me and a good friend of mine are headed to France in 2 weeks and have been using that site a lot. They also have Rail Passes which are a great inexpensive way to get around Europe etc.

You certainly don't have to wait until your retired. They key is to work your ass off and school and get a well paying job.

So far I've been to most of the US and Canada. I'm now working my way across Europe.

Another option is to do like a friend of mine. He worked his ass of for 5 years. Drove cheep little cars and lived in a small apartment. He then quite he job and traveled around the world for over a year.
