I want to swap my overclockable i7 4770K for a 4770 (no K)

I just built a PC that I thought I might want to overclock so I bought the over-clockable Intel core i7 4770K "K" version. I am not a gamer and have never tried to overclock it. I have been trying to set up a virtual machine and Gigabyte just told me that the "K" version does not support Microsoft Hyper-V. I built this PC the last week of February, 2014. I am retired and use it for personal use only.

Anybody interested in swapping an Intel Core i7 Quadcore 4770 for my Core i7 4770k? I'm located in Hemet, CA.

Thanks,
Art

You'll get a lot of traffic on this but you should take it over the For Sale/Trade forums before the minions dive in.

I tried to post it on For Sale/trade and was blocked, apparently because I haven't made 25 posts. I just realized that. I guess I'm out of luck.

I've tried Hyper-V, Oracle VM, Virtual Box with no luck. VM and VB say that Hyper-V has locked VT-X and I can't find out how to unlock it or remove Hyper-V.

Any Suggestions?

If somebody could delete my "Swap " messages maybe I can continue on this thread only discussing ways to get a virtual machine running on my 4770K.

Thanks,
Art

Go into your BIOS/UEFI and make sure that visualization is turned on. Seems like it's simply disabled.

You can't run multiple hypervisors simultaneously, although you shouldn't have a problem with Hyper-V, getting O-VM or VB to work should be as easy as:

Press Windows key + X
Click Programs and Features
Click Turn Windows features on or off
Uncheck Hyper-V
Click okay and restart

EightySix Four you are da man! I can't believe I was so dense about how to get Hyper-V turned off. I'd never used Windows feature before. I guess now I can keep my "K" processor as I write this Windows 8 64-bit) is booting up in a virtual machine. Now I get to download all the updates and then upgrade to Windows 8.1Pro.

Thanks everybody for your help. Now that I've got a vm running I'll probably get a lot of offers to swap processors but I'm keeping the "K" version.

Thanks again, all.
