With storage being so cheap now, I can't find a good reason not to rip my entire DVD collection to stream to my Xbox 360 and other computers. I've already done my music collection, so I have a few questions...

1. What kind of compression should I use for standard DVD? WMV? H.264? Divx? (I plan to retain all original physical media so I'm not concerned about using lossy compression as I can re-rip later if a better format appears) Do any formats handle HD video better than others?

2. Can any of those compression formats be optimized for the Xbox 360? (I assume WMV can, but can others?)

3. Can Blu-Ray content be ripped?

1) Personally I use xvid since I am able to keep the original AC-3 stream for Dolby Digital audio on playback. Works well with my 360.

2) Not sure if they can or not. I just go with some presets in Fair Use Wizard and it works

3) Don't know, don't own any Blu Rays. I'd say probably that you can but I could be wrong.

1. It should be able to play Xvid or divx formats so you should be fine by doing that. Xvid and Divx are usually the way to go.
2. Try using Handbrake when you rip your DVDs they have some presets for each type of player (iPod, PS3, Xbox 360)
3. It can, don't know what to use to rip those.
