i have trimmed my nails with my teeth for over 10 years. I finally stopped about a year ago. I just told myself that i need to stop and made a real effort to quit and i have. And you know what? i havent gotten sick as much since i stopped.

I broke the habit for almost a year once. What I did was everytime I felt the urge to bite my nails, I'd just run my teeth under the nail.

Possible suggestion:

Trim them with nail clippers regularly and then there won't be anything to bite.

I'm part of the "I decided to stop and did" group. I just made an effort to not do it anymore. Every time I went to start, I'd make myself stop, no matter how much I wanted to. I haven't bitten my nails for at least 6 months.

Edit: I also did what Gooberlx2 said in the post above mine. I kept them short enough that there wasn't enough nail there to make it worth my while.
