I have always wanted to start a website dedicated to gaming. I have looked at some templates around and they look like a great start to get this going.

Now, IGN and Gamespot are such huge websites, it'd be hard to fit in the 'niche'. So my idea is to focus on a more viewer friendly/everyday gamer type of site. Perhaps somehow making it with a format where everyday gamers/site visitors can submit their own reviews, tips, etc and we as the website owners either pick the best one(s) and pay them a prize, etc. So basically, the site is run by gamers and visitors but we as the owners just put everything together.

I think it would be a lot of fun to do but also very challenging , what do you all think?

I think it's a great idea. :)

What type of website templates have you found? Maybe I could add my two cents?

Sounds great! Do you know your search engine optimization? Also, just my 2c here....one of the big reasons I don't visit game review websites is because they are so freaking busy. When I say that, my advise is to make it a very clean site and not have 1000 things to click on just from the homepage.

Isn't yougamers.com suppose to be something like that?

Either way, still a good idea. I mean just to catalog the opinions of games from people on the forums, but a little more extended (not just 100 one line opinions, maybe a dozen people contributing their opinions as a couple of paragraphs each or something). Because I seem to get a better idea of how a game is by reading some of the more in-depth posts by members in PC Gaming forum as opposed to a Gamespot or IGN review (which are still okay, but I prefer forums).

Quintox if you are seriously interested in doing something like this I can partner up with you. I'm looking to start some side projects outside of work. I'm a project manager for a company that runs e-commerce sites doing about 25 million hits a day, so I can easily handle all the development (software design, database, coding, etc). I have some specific ideas for such a user-posted-content project (including a framework already built). What I need is a design and help promoting the website. If anyone else from AT is interested lets talk more.
