I want to squeeze out a little more from my 1.6A...

I have a 1.6A that really won't go above 140fsb.
I am using an Alpha 8942, Asus p4b266 (bios 1009), 3 case fans, a quality Enermax 350 power supply, Corsair XMS3000 ram, Geforce 4 4400 (PNY), and AS2.
My question is, what do you experts cough *thugsrook* cough do when you hit a wall.
I have my memory timings set at 2-2-2-5 turbo 1, but the ram is rated so high I don't know if it could be a problem.
It will not boot at 145fsb with 1.675 volts, have I reached my limit?

are you using the 3:4 ratio trick?
did you put as2 on the motherboard chipset?

anyways, try some of these settings in bios...

Halt On = No Error
USB Legacy Support = Disabled
Cas = By SPD !!!!!!!!!!!! cant stress this enough on a p4b266!
SDram Idle Timer = Infinite
Optimization Mode = Turbo1
Graphics Aperture = 64mb (or same as vid card memory)
AGP = 4X
Delay Transaction = Disabled
Serial/Parallel Ports = Disabled
PCI Latency = 32
USB Function = Disabled
Plug and Play OS = No

HTH 🙂

<EDIT> oh yea, use all 3 power plugs too

Thugs,I have one of those 1.6a's that only hits about 144FSB stable with 3:4 hack running 2.5/3/3/7 lowest setting on the P4B533 with prime running 12 hours.I even tried 2.5/3/3/6 and errored out on prime..LOL.Should I set it to "by speed" for better results?.Also, should I put some AS3 on the North bridge controller?.I have the bios setup like you mentioned to me earlier.I have only the 2 plugs connected, the ATX and the P412V.My ram is holding me back a bit and am on the verge of getting some corsair.Just wondering If I can squeeze any more out of her.My voltage is at 1.625 in the bios and 1.632-1.648 under load about 1.68 Idle with 3:4 running prime.I am overvolting an extra .01-.02 like you mentioned with the hack.

By the way, hurry up and sell me that 1.6a🙂.You know you want to hit the 3gig mark with the 2.26 when they drop in price in September😀

BY SPD is always an option for any overclocker - sometimes it will run faster and better than anything you can set manually - always worth testing.

AS on the northbridge is a must for all overclockers - adding a 40mm fan is also another option.

the P4B533 has not needed all 3 plugs for me, so ive never bothered to try it.

HTH 🙂

I am using 1 stick of 256 Samsung TCB3.Samsung chips on OEM PCB.I guess it isn't CTL or DTL ram.I hit 153FSB in both 1:1 and 3:4 into windows,no further with both ratios after that.Voltage is at 1.675V in bios and 1.735V Idle and with 3:4 extra .02V.She's definitely buckling at the knees making it into windows at that FSB🙂.Prime ran for 22 seconds🙂.I hit 408DDR with 3:4 with the ram at 2.5\3\3\7.I just bought some 3200 Corsair so we'll see.I know for a fact my CPU might hit 2.4 with better ram but thats about it.I bought it off someone that ran it 2.4 stable at 1.65V so we'll see.I am running now at 2303GHz 144FSB.I am pretty happy at that but its still considered a dud by our standards🙁.I don't want to go anymore on the V.Its stable after 12 hours of prime with my setting I posted above.I'll try thugs suggestion with the AS3 and by speed and see how that goes. The Corsair I have coming in will hopefuuly give me that little extra.

Heatspreaders are for sissy's😀,just kidding.I called around and I have to special order the heatspreader, nobody stocks it.Since I bought some pc3200 XMS Corsair no need to buy it.I'll just have to wait for the Corsair to come in.

nowadays many online vendors carry heatspreader...or local computer shops too...fry's electronics...
if you want brand name...get the thermaltake one...either active/passive...depends on your need and preference...the active one will add some noise to your system tho
