I want to send out a thank you card

You can send a free e-card thru hallmark.com, as well as others. You can upgrade and send nicer ones, I believe.
 
I don't think anyone would much appreciate a lazy gesture. If you're sincere, why can't you put as much effort into sending something material?
 
It's not that e-cards are meaningless, but in no way do they equal the impact of an actual card sent in the mail.
