I want to run network and telephone on one Cat5e cable

NM, i figured it out. :)

Assuming that I'm using either A or B type wiring. (and which type is best?)

keep in mind that if you want gig ethernet, you can't do this. Plus all future ethernet technologies will use all4 pairs.

yup, it's just for an at home install. :)

Thanks for reminding me though.

Oh, and I ended up just running another Cat5 cable anyway. Figured I'd use the wire sooner or later. :)

There's also some concern about phone lines having hi-voltage surges (from nearby lightning strikes). Having your network sharing the same cable probably increases the chances of damage to your computers, routers, or switches. CAT5 networking typically has very little protection against surges.

Yeah when we deploy a new telephony server at a client site, we always run Cat5E for the phones, even if its an analog deployment (when the client decides to upgrade to a VOIP server they just wire an ethernet port at the jack :)
