Yes you can. Just go into dos and make a win98 dir on c drive. Here are the steps:

1. (c drive) md win98
2. (c drive) cd "cd rom"
3. (cd rom) copy win98 c:win98
4. (cd rom) cd c
5. (c drive) cd win98
6. (c drive) setup

When you run setup from the c drive, all the setup programs will point to the c drive win98 dir so you no longer need you win98 cd. I do this all the time because I hate hunting for the cd when I go to apply a patch and it ask for the 98 cd.

Last time I tried it, it would not copy all the subdirectories?? Is there another option on the end of the copy??

If you have Windows up and running, go into my computer, right-click on the CD-ROM with the CD in it, select open, then copy the "win98" folder and the setup.exe file onto your HD. That should be all you need to install Win98 again.

why not just format the drive and boot from the win98 disc? No use in wasting space...

santar is correct. Here's how I do it. I boot to a Windows 98 Start Up disk. I check CD-ROM support. I FDISK then reboot. Again, I select CD-ROM support. At the A: prompt, I FORMAT /s the hard drive. When it's finished, I go to C:\ MD WIN98, then I go to the E:\ (CD-ROM) (D:\ should be the RAMDRIVE.) I go into the E:\WIN98 Directory (on the Win98 CD-ROM) and type copy *.* c:\win98. This will copy all the necessary files to the hard drive. I remove the boot floppy and reboot the PC. The computer should boot to the c:\ prompt. I CD to the Win98 directory and type setup. This works. I'm doing it now on a customer's PC. It saves a lot of time, and whenever the customer needs a file, they don't need to put in thier CD.

copy the files in the "win98" directory, you don't need anything in the subfolders of the win98 directory.

sometimes you may need to copy the drivers folder, but if you keep your current drivers in a folder, you don't have to (make sure you unzip and stuff).
