I have a Supraexpress 56e external serial and am wanting to reduce the speed to 40,000 for gaming. I am having trouble with UT and staying connected.

I keep getting connection failed and hate it because it normaly happens when I am about to win.

Also can I change the value to where it will let me stay on the server longer if I do start to lag? Or is it built into the server?

Thanks

BTW for anyone who has this modem if you got a good string please share. Otherwise I would like to know one that will reduce my modems speed to 40,000.

In your dial-up networking settings in Windows, if you go into either your modem or DUN connection properties, there's a slider setting for the maximum speed of the modem. It's usually set to the maximum port speed, 115200, or something like that. You can just lower it to whatever you want (although 300 is too low, trust me!) and try that for awhile.

well I was hopeing someone knew a init string that will limit the speed to that instead of fooling that.

in w2k go into the DUN, and right click on your connection, then click configure, at that point you can choose a few different speeds.

in w98 i used to use the string s10=11, it supposedly set the noise level disconnect level higher then normal.

Windows uses initialization strings, and that setting just changes the init string that Windows uses. The section for putting in an initialization string is if you need some special setting beyond the standard v.90 strings. If you find the init string that lowers the speed, you'll be doing the same thing Windows does.

Your modem manual or driver CD should have a guide to your modem's "AT" command set. The one to look for is +MS= This command will allow you to set maximum and minimum modem-to-modem speeds. Your syntax should look something like this: +MS=v90,1,28800,40000.

. Most would leave the top number at 54000 (no modem can run faster than 53,xxx anyway).

Some modem mfrs use a number to stand for the protocol name. My Best Data uses 12=v90, so my string is: +MS=12,1,28800,54000. Your modem's command listing should explain what it uses.

The windows slider sets computer-to-modem speed which should be left at 115200 for most modems.
