I need to know how much of my bandwidth that I typically use on a daily basis. I'm adding a new server and I need to know if I have enough ISP bandwidth to handle the new data flow between two locations. Is there software or a piece of hardware that I can attach to my router/modem to track how much data I'm sending and recieving from the Internet?

I want to send my boss a report to show whether or not we need to purchase more bandwidth from our ISP to handle the extra dataflow.

My firewall has that capability, but I want something that can email me a report so I can see how much we use in a typical day. The firewall works like a collector that just keeps going until I turn it off or reset it.

if your router/switch supports snmp, MRTG is the industry standard for that sort of thing. Plus, it's free, and give awsome longterm stats.

NTOP may also do what you need, but it's not geared to that as much as monitoring WHAT is on the wire (not how much)
