goto michael's or joann's ... they have the heavy dense styrofoam boards .. ask them and they will give prolly give u a better solution ...

behind the plants?

I wanted to put rope lighting on the bottom near the floor as well. Just dont know how i would wire it...

Probably in front of. There definately needs to be something up there. My parents had the similar situation and they wired up some rope lights and it made really nice indirect lighting. You would probably need an electritian to put in an outlet uptop which shouldn't be hard to do.

Put some dirt trays on top of the upper-cabinets. Plant seeds. Water. Enjoy foilage.
