If I currently have OCZ Value Series 1 GB (2x512mb) with 2.5 CAS and something like 2.5-4-4-8 timings. If I want to purchase an additional 1 GB (2x512mb), do I have to get the exact CAS and timings speeds? Does it also have to be the same brand name? OCZ?

Please advise and thanks!

Sorry what do you mean "steppings"? Based on the specs of my motherboard and cpu? I have a AMD 64 Venice 3200+ and a Asus A8N nForce 4 SLI board that supports the dual channel memory. I'm still good to use a different CAS latency and timing memory?

Thanks for clarification. :)

Stepping means E6 & E4. If you use different CAS latency and timming both memory will be running on same CAS and timming, e.g 2.5CAS & 2.0 CAS might run at 2.5CAS.

OP - are you going to have issues having to drop from the 1T command rate (right term?) to 2T? I'm no memory expert, but I was under the impression that 4x512 wasn't desireable.

So having 4x512mb RAM isn't desirable? I thought it didn't really matter whether or not I had 4x512mb or 2x1gb as far as performance.

Most motherboards will drop your memory speed to pc2700 or even lower with 4x512mb. If you want performance for games etc, just get 2 good 1gig sticks...
