I want to make a reference map for some clerks. I need to put the addresses of 12 doctors' offices numbered or lettered on the map of a metro area. I've looked at using google & yahoo maps, entering each address as directions, but it includes the route lines, which is confusing.

Are there any free tools that I can use?

You can add points to Google maps, with no direction lines.

I've been messing around with google for this, but can't find a way to number or letter those points. For a print out, that's pretty necessary.

Is there a way to do this that I haven't seen?

2 options:

Option 1: Do map, capture screen and add numbers via paint.

Option 2: Creat 64x64 pixel icons with numbers/etc and import them as custom icons into Google maps.

Does it have to be purely digital? What's wrong with printing out a google map and then using stickers to mark the locations? It's a time tested age old method for marking a map.

Click Collections -> Add a Pushpin, does just what you need I think.

Edit - here's an example of what it does.

+1. This is what I do. I think other mapping sites have similar functions. And with Bing (formerly live, formerly mappoint), you can export a gpx file of the collection to a GPS too.
