I want to overclock my laptop from windows

I am not too big on overclocking, I have played with my desktop (DFI Nforce4 Ultra-D with 3700+ Sandy--I am runing at stable 2.65 right now). I am looking for a way to overclock and obviously I can't with Dell's Bios in here, is there any software I can run in windows to overclock my CPU. I have use the ATI Tool before for my video card, I figured there would be some type of software like that to run in windows for my CPU.

TBH, dont overclock!! you will damage the componants really easy, I was using my laptop un-oc'ed just defraging time to time, and it MELTED the HD ALONE!! I know OCing will do much worse permanent damage...

Melted the HDD huh???

I would still like some help with this if anyone has some software out there that would help me.

Well I doubt that will work with my machine, I am running a Dell machine with a Dothan 1.73, ClcokGen won't support my motherboard.

Anyone have some other ideas???

Laptops have a very narrow tolerance for excessive heat. They are simply not designed for overclocking. Get a faster laptop if you must.

Dude, listen to him!

I even took apart my Dell laptop once for repair, and the heatsink is a total peice of crap! Don't overclock your laptop! It's even worse than ocing a P4 w/ a stock heatsink!

Dell laptop's already often times have heating issues. You are going to run the risk of damaging your processor if you attempt to overclock a laptop.

I say there's no real problem as long as you don't exceed the maximum cpu speed available for the laptop, it's not like you can adjust voltage anyway.

OK I will take everyones advice, I still would like to play around with the overcock.

Does anyone have the name of some software I can try out that will let me do what I want??

Please if you are just going to tell me that I shouldn't try this...just don't post then.

I don't suggest you overclock the CPU on that laptop, just replace the CPU with a faster one later on when it's cheap. My laptop runs very cool (IBM) but I still wouldn't overclock the CPU because for one thing, software overclocking is very unreliable, leave software overclocking to video cards. Dells have bad overheating issues, I've had to RMA a dell just for overheating for no real reason.

GamerExpress, you might want to proofread your post.... 🙂
It however will be imortalized in my sig.

I would not overclock your laptop. Why? One word: HEAT. Laptops are not built to be heat-dissapating, overclockable machines. They are meant to use the least amount of power possible while generating the least amount of heat possible. Therefore, overclocking your laptop would run the risk of overheating and damaging your laptop. If you damage it and try to RMA it, try explaining to Dell that you tried overclock it and that's how it got damaged....see if they replace or repair it. So really, be smart about it, don't overclock your laptop. A slower PC is better than no PC at all.

Come on, people used to say that kind of stuff about desktops.

I think, as long as no physical modifications are done, the voltage isn't raised, and the cpu speed doesn't exceed the max available for htat laptop, there will probably be no problem, especially for the cool running P-M and Turion laptops. Now then, a P4 based laptop may get too hot, especially if it doesn't have speedstep, but the marginal increase in heat caused by overclocking (since voltage is still the same, it shouldn't go up much) combined with the speedstep/cool n' quiet technologies should keep things safe. Just like a real PC, you're far more likely to have just minor crashes and what not way before serious damage occurs.

I understand that I can damage my laptop by overclocking it, that's the risk anytime you overclock a processor. I still would like to know if there is software out there that would let me play around and try to overclock my machine if I want. I think I understand the point about heat and a P4 by default runs hot already, I don't need at lesson on that. The fact is if I bust my machine it's on me, thanks for all the advice but I am just trying to get the name of some software that will give me the ability to overclock my lappy.

Thanks.
