I was watching the end of a show showing Sydney and it's surrounding area and I fell in love as soon as I saw it. I want to move there and become a chef.

I just wanted to see if anyone on this forum lives there and if they can answer just a few questions I have about the country or maybe someone has some good links loaded with info.

Thanks!
Dustin

But... what's there to do outside of Sydney and Canberra?
Criss-cross the void desert?

Canberra is pretty sucky (i should know, my folks lived there until recently, they've now moved out into NSW on a 10 acre block ;) It's main advantages are being close to both the surf and the snow...

Sydney is overrated by backpackers and tourists, great place to visit but if you want lifestyle and climate, it's Perth you're looking for :D

OK, tell me the best place based on these requirements:

-College/University/Institute Nearby

-Good prices on apartments (I am a college student :p )

-Close or relativly close to a beach with a good surf

-Nice looking and upbeat with nice people

lol, i'm way out of my depth there ;)

Signup at the overclockers australia forums (OCAU) at www.overclockers.com.au and ask the same question. They're mainly Eastern Staters on there...

For Perth, the Uni of choice is the University of Western Australia.

There's stacks of choice as far as student housing is concerned in Nedlands and Crawley (renting, buying is expensive).

We're on a direct bus route to an awesome beach, Cottesole (maybe 10mins on the bus, just over 5 in the car), the surf sucks there tho, Trigg is probably the best surf and that is a half hour drive really.

Yeah, nice area, full of students and rich people's houses so..;)

3 more questions before I got to bed:

-How much is your DSL a month and how fast is it

-Who is the best wireless provider there

-Why do all the cars in Australia look like they are worth no more than $500?

I would HAVE to bring my Mazda3 with me.

Oh and do you guys have any problems with illegal mexicans there?

They are great, hard working people but the language barrier kills me.

I work at Cingualr and 3/4 of my customers speak spanish! I have to guess what they want all the time and make many mistakes.

24mb/1m and $55AUD a month

No idea

They don't

You could just buy one here with the steering wheel on the correct side, we do have them ;)

LOL No mexicans, illegal or otherwise (they find it hard to swim across the pacific ;))

The left side is the correct side. :p

Seriously though, can I get a drivers permit there if I want to drive on the left or is that illegal?

You can, but you'd want to be very careful overtaking and the like ;)

Umm...

(Australia generally): it's hard to get new and up to date computer hardware at decent prices (well, compared to US prices).

We do have excellent HDTV coverage if you happen to like that (off topic i know )

The public transport system (which is excellent) has been very busy so far this year and they need to add some more buses especially to some routes...

I find winter gets a bit cold. Sometimes a week of 40+C in summer is a bit tough if you have no AC too, but we usually have a very regular sea breeze that comes in every arvo...

I asked the GF and she could only think of high air fares to get to other places...

ACTUALLY: we did think of one thing we fscking hate, a terminal shortage of taxis, so getting one on a friday or saturday night is a fscking nightmare :|

The only thing i actually hate there is the taxi shortage ;)

Very interesting read. I've always wanted to know how life would be like in Australia.

I don't know if I could handle not having the latest hardware at decent prices though .

Arvo=afternoon.

Visit the beach regularly, great nightlife, plenty of good restaurants around us which we enjoy sampling, lots of great bike rides and walks around us (Kings Park is just up the road from us)...

Later! Thanks for the great info!

I always say the best information on an ara is from the residents not a tourism brochure.

Does everyone from Australia overuse the wink emoticon?

"G'day! ;) Crikey, have you been in a bingle with a banana bender? ;) We were just about to have some fair dinkum chook and plonk! ;)"

What the heck are you trying to imply? Are we supposed to infer some kind of sexual innuendo from your sentences? Are you coming on to us?

Just curious.
