I want to move my AGP slot up one slot

I want to move my AGP slot up one slot. How can I do this? I want to get some kind of extender or riser that can bring it up to the next slot so I can put better cooling on my video card. My northbridge heatsink is in the way.

Nycxandy is about as close as you're going to get. Your AGP slot is stuck on whatever position it's already at on the motherboard, and takes up whatever external case slot it lines up with. There is no such thing as a riser like what you're talking about; you're the victim of a poorly designed motherboard I'm afraid.

Poorly designed case, more likely.

He says it hits his Northbridge, so that's a mobo issue. Either way though, he's SOL.:(

My case (Thermaltake Tsunami) has an empty expansion slot above the AGP slot on my motherboard (any motherboard I've used in it).

Read what I replied to your thread in perhipherals.

Backplane brackets are most definitely *NOT* ever referred to as "slots". Period. The extra bracket space you keep calling a slot is for i/o connectors that don't require any REAL SLOT of their own. How many times and in how many AT forums are you going to ask this same thing and not be satisfied with the answers you get? I've seen it in at least three AT forums since I answered here.

You have either a badly designed motherboad or you chose to use a video card that wasn't intended to be used in that particular MB. You can get a shorter (AGP) video card, a PCI video card, or a different motherboard. You cannot "MOVE" any (AGP) video card anywhere other than where its real slot is located. Period.

Yeah AGP risers are available but a ribbon type with no extra depth to the remote socket (board to the side) would be required with no mainboard components in the way or else the card would not line up to the bracket anyway and then you are into modding the case. It would also have to be insulated to avoid shorts and some support for the card other than the bracket rigged up. With all that messin' and cost an easier route would prolly be replacing or modifying the NB heatink or easiest of all choosing/finding a different replacement GPU heatsink that will fit. The mainboard design can't be so bad that no after-market ones will fit? What video card and which heatsink won't fit?

Such hardware you seek is seldom found outside of test and/or manufacturing facilities.

Even if you did obtain such hardware, electrical specifications are out of tolerance for working products and use in an end user environment is strongly discouraged.

Cheers!
