It's a 1.2t-brid with an alpha pal6035 and ys-tech 27.2cfm fan, in a SX830 case.

Can I change the fan and put a quieter one on? Or is my heat sink not good enough (temps are at 47C, I might get AS2 havn't desided yet).

We need more specs. What kind of power supply are you using? How many and what kind of case fans?

Using the Antec P303 300watt antec powersupply. with one antec 80mm fan as teh exhust fan. The fan that is making the noise is my cpu fan (ys-tech 27.2).

I sorta have the same setup.. sx830 with the ystech fan on a fop32-1. its pretty noisy... and setting very close to me at ear level.. I'd like to get either a quieter fan... or a temperature controlled fan add on for this one..

ystech fan make lots of noise for the performance they offer. You could go wit a thermaltake 60mm 31cfm @ 28dba. Less noise more cfm. ;)

The specs on ThermalTake fans are HEAVILY exaggerated. I wouldn't really trust TT with something as important as a CPU fan...

My recommendation, if you have the money, is to upgrade to an Alpha PAL8045 and get a quiet Panaflo or PCP&P Silencer. You'll probably get even better cooling performance with much less noise.

If you plan on sticking with your current heatsink, then you should definitely put some AS2 on there. It's amazing how much AS2 can lower temps :)

As for changing fans, there are a ton of 60mm fans out there. Take a look through them at Plycon and 2CoolTek and find the one that best suits your needs. Again, I'd recommend avoiding the ThermalTake fans, but if you think one of those would work, go for it. Good luck, getting a quiet system is a pain, but worth it.

Would it really be worth the 40$ to upgrade to a PAL8045/papst fan with AS2? How much will the temps/noise go down?

Edit: just did a search, and the PAL8045 does not fit the ak31a. Whats another alternative?

That is true for the fan that come with an heatsink but the model that is sold alone is good, actually drop temp by 2c ( i had a ystech before) and drop my noise a little.

But Pal8045 is a really good alternative.

Zen review

<< In order for this to be a heatsink I would consider purchasing, the manufacturer would have to look into fixing the flaws contained within this product. If the clipping mechanism was fixed and the surface of the CPU contact area was increased I believe that this product would do very well in the hardcore cooling market. Until it is fixed though I would recommend staying away from it. >>

Another review :)

Alright so the Zen and the Alpha Pal8045 are out of the question.

Should I just get a quiet fan for my Pal6035 and some AS2?

For a quiet (28dB) 60mm might I suggest the Sanyo Denki 109R0612H402? @ 19.1CFM it's not exactly a powerhouse, but with ASII on a 1.2 it's adequate. I'm running mine with a Gladiator on a 1.4 and it's fine.
