Probably £250k and up, or about $450,000 to start. (That's for a small house)
And you will NEED a car.

Might be able to get away with £175k in a small town, rather than surrounded totally by fields.
This is the south west (mostly fields).
Other places would be cheaper. I forgot that.

A house like that one (I'm guessing the standard 3 house, one hall, one kitchen, one bathroom kind) not far from London would cost >150,000 GBP.

Well it was all brick. Did they still build them that way in the 60's? Being from California, I haven't ever seen a house actually made of bricks. I think the Spanish were the only ones to try and they gave up pretty quick.

What could an American IT guy do over there....other than just being cooler than everyone else?
