This summer I'm working at a movie theater. Most of the people who work there are Hispanics, and speak both Spanish and English (somewhat :)) flutently. They like to talk in Spanish a lot, and I was hoping that I'd kinda pick up a little of it (could be helpful not just for hanging out, but also for future jobs). But its not workin too well. I took 3 years of Latin in 8th-10th grade, last year I didn't take anything. I heard that Latin is supposed to make picking up other romance languages like French & Spanish easier. Next year I'm going to be a senior in HS, and I can't take Spanish then -- it will have to wait till college, if I'm going to get educated in school. So my question is, has anybody had any success with any self-training in another language? What methods did you use? Obviously I can get plenty of practice talking to others once I learn a little bit, since there are plenty of spanish speakers to talk to :)

P.S. I *think* I am an audible learner, since I tend to remember things better that I hear and when I study notes I think its often more effective to read hard to remember parts out loud when they need to be recalled later.

<< This is America, how about they learn English? >>

i knew this was coming - yes they speak English also. I can't force them to speak English all the time, though. :)

It's a good idea to learn more than one language, there's a small niche of high paying jobs for people who can jive in different languages.
