I want to learn to play a musical instrument

I always wanted to play some kind of instrument...some kind!! I am 29 and have no clue. So I decided 2005 is the year.

Now I narrowed it down to a few choices: Piano, Guitar, Drums and Violin.

Each one sounds fun, drums might be hard because there is no way I could ever get one at my condo, don't think my neighbors would appreciate it. But give me some feedback Pro/cons, help me choose.

Do you want to play professionally?
It will take years for the Piano, Violin and Guitar. Not sure about the drums.
Will you be getting lessons?

Everyone plays these instruments. Of these, I consider the piano to be the most "useful," but it's also the least portable. Between guitar and violin, it's a toss-up between what your musical interests are. Drums suck 🙂

But in truth, the world needs more accordian players, so that's my suggestion to you.

I play drums, its REALLY easy to learn, and always fun to bang on stuff... go for it. Its alot easier to learn than the others...

And the Kazoo.

I play drums as well, but I feel the piano is better to learn first. The instrument itself may not be portable, but the skills you get from playing keyboard transfer the most to other instruments.

I suppose you could start with drums, but then I fear you'd have no sense of dynamics and just end up banging on stuff.

I used to play keys and brass a few years ago and they were ok. I've recently picked up the guitar and it's been the most fun by far. It is a tougher instrument to learn, but the fun factor to me makes it well worth it.

Don't want to do this professionally, just want to learn for the enjoyment of it. Yes I will be taking lessons.

Refer to my first post above.

First of all, I'm deaf and I do play music instruments. I've played violin for maybe three years, the lessons were easy.. Pretty much similar to acoustic and bass guitars I've played. Obviously, I want everyone to play piano because of its beautiful tunes. I started playing piano when I was seventh-grader and lasted till I graduated high school. Hell, piano took me forever to become "professional." It took me like three months to play "Fur Elise" by Beethoven perfectly.

Piano will definitely dig chicks than your own accent. 😛

obviously i'm a little biased... but considering your situation, i would probably say piano simply for the base you will be learning.
Living in a condo will make it tough to play your drums, trust me. not saying it is imposible to do though.
Drums are awfully fun though...

I am a drummer. It is somewhat easy to learn but you have to have your timing down. If not than it would like you are just making noise.

If you want to learn how to play the guitar start out by playing bass. My brother-in-law plays guitar but he started out playing bass. He said it was easier for him but everyone is different.

IMHO piano will be the hardest to learn. There is a lot of sh!t to learn. I tried to play it buy my fingers would not cooperate with me.😱

Violin:thumbsdown:

But if I was you I would start out with a trumpet. Once you learn how to play that the saxophone will be way easy to learn. Then you can go out side and start playing and make a $ or $$.

I thought it was easy too but some people jsut have a natural rythm and pick it up really easily.

i've been around my share of people that just didn't have it.
Considering the amount and variation of movement required, some just don't have the coordination, especially when it come to playing with a great amount of limb independence

I play guitar, bass, and piano.

If you're looking for something fun to mess around with, go guitar, I was classicaly trained for 13 years on piano and it's more work than you can imagine.
