I think AMD CPUs aren't worse than Intel ones, they just need to ship more boxed CPUs with quiet fans, not 32db in the best case as it is now.

If AMD could sell the same amount of cpus for $2000 each, they'd do it in a heartbeat. So would Intel. No different than any other corporation.
Well when you put it that way, I agree completely.

Eh? No hostility, just truth.
Am I wrong? Here... graphs for everyone: Intel AMD
Please pay close attention to the summer of 2000, that's when AMD released the Tbird and then the 1GHz.
And then now the NASDAQ to put it all in perspective.
Those graphs show how market conditions worsened. And we all know how prices fell as market conditions got worse and worse...

Ummm... That's exactly what I'm saying. Despite the fact that competition was fierce, prices still fell.

By the way.... AMD's 1ghz Athlon was $1299 in March of 2000. Three months later it was $990. You expect us to believe that it dropped $800 in one month???

Bah... :p
I forgot they released the 1GHz in the K75 slot package. I was thinking in terms of the Tbird socket package and had my dates screwed up. Forgot to mention I got a great deal on my 1GHz when I bought it: one of those occasionally ridiculous CPU/Mobo combo deals at Fry's.

"i want to kill INTEL and make them eat their own feces"
Wouldn't making them eat feces BEFORE killing them make much more sense? If they're dead, and then you make them eat feces, they cannot exactly 'know' the horror and digust of eating their own feces, right? :p
I built a box with Athlon Xp 1700+ last year and I know first hand that AMD has put out a sh*tty bunch of processors in the last 2 years. My family bought a dell with a Pentium 4 1.7 Ghz at about the same time and It is far faster and overall better performing.
I know this type; doesn't have a clue what he's doing, he builds a computer, has a lot of trouble with it, so he blames the hardware, because it can't be his fault. Noooo.

I know that is what happened, because even the most ardent Intel supporter has to give credit to AMD for their Athlon line of processors.

Thats not all, though the whole reason I got an Athlon Xp is for its price and performance in games My computer with far greater specs, in all areas, runs UT 2003 like crap compared to a Dell piece of sh!t with only a Gforce 3 Ti 200, Pentium 4 1.7 Ghz and 256mb of DDR sdram. I would rather not say ther rest my comps specs because of the shame it would cause to fellow AMD users. I like AMDs products but the last few years offerings have been mediocre at best.

umm... i feel bad for this guy.

I have a hunch I know where this guy's problem is.

Yea, my bro had one of them guys. My bro builds a cheap Athlon XP system with a Rage128 as video for this guy, because he just wants to surf the net and other such easy stuff. So the guy discover RTCW and decides to start gaming 3-4 months after getting his PC. He confronts my bro, because he's upset with his systems inability to play decently, so my bro explains to him that a new video card would solve his problem. The guy goes away and returns a few days later and announces that he replaced his crappy PC with a new P4 based PC, because the Athlon sucks for gaming! blarg, people is stupid! :Q

From AMD's press release:
AMD is currently shipping its 1GHz AMD Athlon processors priced at $1,299 in 1,000 unit quantities. AMD is also announcing the availability of 950MHz and 900MHz AMD Athlon processors. The 950MHz AMD Athlon processor is priced at $999 in 1,000 unit quantities. The 900MHz AMD Athlon processor is priced at $899 in 1,000 unit quantities.
These are published 'Manufacturer List Prices', nobody actually paid $1299.00 per unit for the Athlon 1GHz in 1,000 unit quantities. I was an authorized AMD reseller for a few years.

the article wasn't "kill xxx" at all. It was a pro-AMD (albeit for stupid reasons) editoral based on false information and speculation.

That article was reminiscent of what I wrote here exactly a year ago but I focused stricltly on the economic factors. Writing on the "Looking Foward" information is like hedging bets which is why there is the SEC disclaimer. As long as everyone that builds PC's themselves and the bigger OEM houses like HP continue to use AMD they should be around to continue to be a copetotor to Intel.

In fact I am confident that AMD's fate rests more in how the overall economy is doing. I know personally if I was gainfully employed and economically doing better myself that I would've upgraded both Home Computers at least once or twice over the last 2 years to the latest AMD offerings. I'm sure many businesses as well as other people are in the same boat.

Technically, he just listed two of his desires, and didnt state in that quote that he wanted to first kill Intel, and then make them eat their own feces, just that he wished to do both. There was no delineation of which he wanted to come first. I make this statement with the full knowledge that the guy who originally made that comment probably couldnt understand my post.
