i want to install XP on a HDD

I'm not certain if the HDD is in working order. how can I find out if all I have is Win XP Pro on cd?

Try it and see is the only way I know. BTW - I assume the HDD in question is connected to a computer and that it has a CD drive?

If so, the XP Pro CD is bootable - so put it in the drive, power up and see what happens. The XP Pro CD will run a CHKDSK on the HDD before installing.
