I want to host a game...but the router gets in the way- HELP!

I want to host UT (for myself and a few friends) and Rogue Spear also, but I know I can't host without doing something to some setting wtih my router. I can't even get the right IP address to tell them (I go to winipcfg and it just tells me the computer's IP within the network).

How can I get around this?

BTW, is the SMC Barricade 4 port router

Thanks guys!

they would use the routers ip address to connect to the game. to make the game available through the router you will need to forward the port that the game is using for the internal network ip of the machine serving the game. This is done in the routers setup. another simpler way is to set the serving computers internal network ip to the dmz in the router but that machine will then be totally outside of the routers firewall protection. I can't give you the specifics of that router as i haven't used it but ingeneral that is waht you need to do with most routers just check the documentation for your router and you should be able to puzzle it out.

hope this has been helpful.

NesuD- i read the manual soooo many times. 😛

Thanks for your help- I think you might be right! I'm gonna try it now! =D

LOL V that link isn't accurate for home network machines i tried it and it gave me my internal network ip not my public ip which is what he is looking for.

NesuD- thanks- it worked! 😀

BTW, what is the port that UT uses? I didn't really like turning off the firewall for the computer that was serving. 😱

NesuD, btw, that link gave me the right IP- not my internal one.

Oops my bad had a brain cramp that link does give the correct ip. Don't remember offhand the port for UT but you should be able to get it by digging around in the advanced settings probably under networking.
