I Want to Give Blood/Plasma-Where can I do this and get $$

I was just reading the latest edition of FHM, and it mentions that folks can get paid around $60 for donating your blood to various organizations like the Red Cross or local hospitals. Anyway I'm going to be out of work for about two weeks so I thought what the hell, why not try if the location I go to will pay me.

My Specs: I am Type O Negative and a healthy 27 year old male with no diseases. I don't drink or do any drugs at all.

I live in the Boston area, anyone know what websites I could go on or local places I could call to get more info?

Well in the 'article' in FHM they said the limit is once every 10 days, which seems often. Anywhoo, ..... I'd just like to get some easy scratch. Getting pricked by a needle doesn't scare me at all.

Anyone have an idea of whom I could call or what website to go to for places in Boston?

i think it isn't much fun giving plasma, you should read up on the procedure.

plasma - you can give it once a week. it takes about two hours though. you have one needle up one arm and a needle up the other. they take the blood out, take the platelets out, and then put your blood back in.

blood - everytime i donated, you could do it once every two months.

I don't know of anyplace that will really pay you for blood. Blood is usually just donated. However, you can usually get money for plasma. Just google it and you'll find places around your area.

Not really. You sit there for ~75 minutes with a needle in your arm. They withdraw maybe a liter of blood, spin it to seperate the plasma from the red blood cells, and pump the red blood cells back into your arm. This cycle continues till they've got a liter of plasma. After that, they give you a bag of saline, and remove the needle. Then you hold a cotton swab over the puncture till it stops bleeding, pick up your check, and leave.

It takes a lot longer than giving blood, and when you give blood you dont get the odd sensation of having room temperature saline injected into your veins. Some people dont react well to that feeling. Never really bothered me, but... it's no 15 minutes and out thing, either, as much as I wish it were.

Yeah, but you arent supposed to jerk off or get laid for 72 hours prior to donating, in order to have sufficient volume (and if you cant produce the volume they're looking for, you dont get paid). And most places require you to donate twice a week. You do the math on that... :disgust:

I was giving plasma for gas money a few weeks ago when the bills piled up. Got paid 20 dollars for the first time you give in a week, 30 for the second. You can give twice a week and your weekly donations have to be 2 days apart. You will get a bit more money the first week you go, as well as a brief physical. When you go in to give the plasma, you sit in a reclined chair, they stick you like they do for a blood donation and thats about it. The machine takes some blood out, spins it for plasma and puts the red blood cells back in, this process repeats until your plasma bottle has filled up. Usually takes around 75 minutes, they put a bandage on your arm just like they do for blood. Get up grab your money and head out for some cheap 40's. These places are listed in the phone book, its like old-school google. Try it sometimes

Why don't you just call Red Cross and ask them if they pay? If they don't ask them for a refferal.:confused:

well that means you have a window of opportunity to have sex twice a week. not too shabby.

go without on sunday - tuesday and donate on wednesday. then have sex on wednesday, and go without again until saturday. repeat until resource depleted.

I know some people at my college here give plasma. They get paid $30 to do it. The bad thing is that you have to sit in a chair for an hour and can't sleep.
