To make the longggg story short, I had a very passionate conviction as of last night.

I want to get into harvard grad for biz.

I'm too lazy right now and I just want to sample how hard it is to get into harvard for grad.

I just realized last night wholeheartedly that I was never serious about anything in life until now. I'm a senior in Umass with double major in management and marketing. My GPA is only 3.0 (but one more yr left to go!), I have a pretty impressive sales extensive resume (i worked all my life actually)

I plan to get into harvard grad about a year or two after graduation. I want to work and study first to do well in GMAT. I know all of this is very clumsy but I really want to get serious with life. I have been serious at times but I can confidently say that I never gave my 110% in life and I want to achieve my ambition with all of my heart and soul.

What can you advise me? Anyone can speak from first hand experience? What do you recommend to prepare for harvard?

Looks like you accomplished the %50 already... setting a goal and believing it... that`s %50...
Working hard for it, is the other %50.

Don't you usually need like 5 years of real work experience to get accepted to an MBA program?

I'm still subscribed for US News' graduate school rankings (engineering, business, law, medicine, etc.). I don't think you can get much without buying a subscription.

You should probably take notice of the average age at the school there: 27 :)

Not to burst your bubble, but currently you aren't H material.

Your GPA is substandard and your school is 3rd/4th tier.

Unless you have a RICH daddy that gave to the school (like Bush Jr.), you ain't getting in.

I know you're at UMass and have an inferiority complex to your neighbor. Get over it.

Tough Love Reality Check----------------------> Get a job, work hard and apply to a school that's more realistic to your academic standing. The sooner you snap out of it and come back to Earth, the less crushing the Reject letter from H will be if you ever decide to apply and waste $100+ in application material.

Words of Wisdom---------------->An MBA won't help you out as much as you think. If you distinguish yourself at work with a company that rewards performance, you'll do just fine.

Sorry, but I kind of agree with the other people. First of all, you're too young, and even then I wonder if you would still get it with 5 years of experience or whatever is needed... unless you do something spectacular.

It's not impossible though!

Maybe you should look into the programs at Boston University, Boston College, or Tufts if you want to be in Boston!

3.6 undergrad at a public school (like yours) is weighted much lower than 3.6 at a top level private school (such as columbia)

Yup, so true...

I have a friend that went to Duke medical school that went to a public university in Alabama (he was in the early medical school acceptance program... accepted into med school from highschool). He says that almost everyone is from other prestigious or semi-prestigious private schools. You have to do REALLY good to be on the same scale as someone who went to a top school.

anyone else see that new fedex ad where the woman leads a man into shipping saying, "now, i know its your first day, but all this needs shipped right away." the man replies, "i can't do this." the woman sits him in front of the computer and says, "its easy, we use fedex.com for everything." "no, you don't understand, i'm an MBA." "well, you're an MBA... i guess i'll have to show you first." :D

id have to agree with theeechosenone

i think even with a 3.7 from a 3rd/4th tier college you wouldnt have much of a shot of getting in.

So a 2.7GPA from UCD isn't going to cut it as well? I'm planning to go to a UC business school

A UC business is on a different level than Harvard. The closest would be berkeley, and their admission standards are just as high as harvard
