I want to get into battle bot/rc car building

My friends are really into upgrading RC cars and making them faster and stronger. They also toy around with some cheap, weak battle bots that they build. Do you folks know anything about this hobby? Where do you suggest I start? For the chassis do you normally just buy an RC car and then modify it?

Battlebots... Now there is a show that I miss! It's too bad that Comedy Central stopped airing the competitions on TV.

That show really should have been on SpikeTV or G4 instead, though. More manly of a audience.

Don't worry, SpikeTV would have made it suck its way back into oblivion. I think that stuff might be better on the Discovery Channel, where it won't get as much of the horrendous treatment that the rest of cable TV shows tend to get. Everything is "jazzed up" to try to improve ratings, which also tends to make too many things unwatchable. Unfortunately, DC is falling prey to this too.

Good idea, but I just can't see the Discovery Channel televising an organized fighting sport, though. That's kinda what Battlebots was. Maybe ESPN 2 could have done the show, too.... They like weird motorized sports.

It's still a better idea than putting it on the Comedy Channel, though... The show wasn't funny!
 
You need to contact Ned. What's his handle nowadays? Used to be Phantasmisnox, then Ned, then TitanDiddly? Anyway, he is/was making Battlebots.
 
Why don't you ask your rl friends how to get started, or are you trying to build one in secret to crush their puny bots?
