I'd suggest the single set of 4 x 2GB but only if it's approved for your MOBO by the RAM vendor. Not all boards and memory combinations will work 4up at DDR800 and it will be dependent upon your individual memory controller.

If the memory is compatible you want as much ram per stick as you can. The less sticks the better. Costs you a few extra bucks but its worth it as far as speed and reliability go.

It's the same number of sticks either way he goes. However, if he buys 2 seperate kits, there is no guarantee that they will be compatible on any given board. It's possible to get different revisions of memory even when ordering the same part. And, if they RAM maker is selling a quad kit that has been validated on the given MOBO, then they will offer support in the event of an issue which is very common running 4 up.

Its the same model RAM, you should be fine with either 2 kits, or 1 big kit. I've been running 8GB of the same stuff purchased in 2 kits for over a year and love it, no complaints and certainly much better than the hot micron D9 based modules I was using prior to these.

Some benefits of buying in 2 kits: 1) You get an extra case sticker ;) 2) If you have to RMA, you won't have to send in all 4 sticks 3) cheaper buying in 2 kits.
