The remote takes 1 9V right now and has a decent telescoping antenna. The car has 2 flimsy antennas.

Anyone done this? What works?

I think it works at 27Mhz

This Mauri Tank is what I am trying to extend

I remember once as a kid my friend stuck a CB antenna on his tyco remote controller and that sucker went clear down the block. Never even came close to going that far with the stock antenna.

What kind of RC car are we talking about? One of the toys you pick up for $50 at Radio Shack or a real one?

He's talking a Radio Hut one.

The man has a point. Any decent hobby shop car (Well, radio really) will have at least a 1/4 mile range.

not sure what you've done to your setup, but the range of my models with an old 27Mhz Hitec Ranger 2 was >1 mile and you'd not be able to see the model before it ran out of range. What is the current range?

Ah, can't help with that. Even my ~20 year old R/C car (a real one) has about a 200 yard range (and the electrpnics in it are about 10-15 years old).

The current range is only 20ft or so. I will try to just add length to the antenna and see if it help.

Just adding length is not going to help much, you ned to know exactly how much to lengthen it.

Lol. A 27 MHz Yagi would be a sight to behold - about 10 feet high and about 50 feet long.

one that can learn the commands from your old remote?

It isn't so much "learning commands" as it is being on the proper frequency. If you have the same model R/C cars from Radio Chack, the controllers will interfere with eachother. The frequency on professional cars can be easily changed to prevent this problem.

I run one of these, but you can get into "real" R/C cars for less than $300. It's actually a pretty exciting/thrilling hobby. Lots of adrenaline and great racing... but you need to be somewhat mechanically inclined to succeed.

(oh, and to the OP, 75Mhz has a longer range I believe)

If you can keep up with it then you can have unlimited range. At least until you get tired! ;)

YUM!

I've thought about getting into 1/8th, but my son is getting close to the age where he can get involved and I want to start him off in electric.
