I want to cry...

Orsorum

I started having problems with graphics on various games about two weeks ago. I was running Win2k server on an Athlon 1.4ghz, 512mb DDR, GeForce 4 MX 440, Epox 8k7a... finally took the time to check it out tonight; got a legal copy of WinXP, reinstalled everything - up to date VIA 4 in 1's, nvidia drivers, etc. All my software is up to date. All my settings are compatible with my current hardware.

And, yet, I still get the same graphics issues with 007: Nightfire and BF1942.

Screenshots - (they're big, 2MB each)
One
Two
Three
Four
Five

Any suggestions? I'm gonna go lay down for a bit.

dude, that's brutal.... i have no idea why..
you check your video card (physically) to see if it's still being cooled properly?

lol

lol My mental state is... questionable at this point.

no it isn't,we know you're nuts😛

Time to shut diwn that rig, open the case, pull that card, dust it with some compressed air, reseat it and watch to see if the fan's working when you reboot. Also what type of case are you using and what other cooling? Check all fans.

Mmm. I just had my GF4 440 Go go out in my Inspiron. Luckily it was under the Complete Care thing so some guy just came out to the house and put a new one in for free. It didn't look like that, but perhaps your card may be dying?

Installed the newest DirectX (8.1a I think)? Could be worth a shot.

9.0 is out now

I had the same problem with two of my games. Turns out when I installed one of them (a little old), it installed an older version of DirectX over the newer version that I had, leaving a few new version DirectX files and a few old version DirectX files.

Exact same thing that you're seeing there. I think I still might even have the screenies.

Anyway, reinstall DirectX (8.1... don't mess around with that sh|tty DX9) and try it again.

I'm using 9.0.

This card is less than 3 weeks old; it should be working fine.

get rid of dx9. it causes all sorts of problems right now

Oh, joy. System restore can't bring it back to the pre DX9 point..

I suppose reinstalling 8.1 over 9 wouldn't be too good of an idea?

you can't uninstall it?

damnit whats with MS refusing to include uninstall software for things

"uh, you should just make a system restore point before you install it"

well thats great what if i install things later and then find that your software doesn't work? then i'll do a system restore to when that stuff wasn't installed and i'll have to install it all over again

not to mention system restore is probably buggy as hell.

A'ight, here goes, I'm reinstalling 8.1... wish me luck!

may the force be with you. 😉

I want to kill someone at MS... 8.1 won't install over 9.0.

I'm going to try reinstalling 9.0 (install it over anything that the games I installed may have installed over...)

😕
