I have a laptop and i dont want to spend 200+ for an cheap external drive... are there External CD-rom case (IDE) that will connect to USB and i can hook up any IDE drive to it? Basically, i want to make any internal drive to work externally... I think they have those xternal cd rom cases but where and what is good out there? Help me please!

Instead of "converting" you might look in Hot Deals.

I got a new Philips 4x external USB for $80 after MIR at OD a few weeks ago. I think there are still some deals well under $150.

External USB cases are typically $50-$80. If you can get a deal on an external USB drive (they won't go beyond 6r4w4rw) that may be better.

I've put a couple of older CD-RW's I have in USB cases and they work fine.

I replaced the internal DVD-ROM drive in my laptop for a Combo drive (now in the process of putting it back to sell it!), that's also an option.
