I want to buy something online, but they only ship to the U.S.

I want to buy a pair of shoes from zappos.com but they only ship to the U.S. (and shipping is free!), and unfortunately won't ship to Canada.

I'm sure this is a common problem with online shopping, so how do most people get around this?

Buy from Canadian retailers.

Then again, with the low dollar, the US e-tailers might be tempting.
 
If you have friends in the US you can ship it to their address then pay for the shipping to Canada, althoug im not sure how much money that would be.
