Emerilware... Made by All-clad, half the price of All-clad, all stainless, stupid celebrity endorsement.

Edit: Made in USA!

Get a good stainless set (calphalon, cuisinart -- ~10pc with lids), a cheap 10" nonstick omelette pan (anolon), and a cast iron skillet (whatever brand). With that combo, you can cook anything.

The wolfgang puck stuff is good too and you can usually find it at discount departments stores. My mom and uncle swear by it (used to own both a restaurant and restaurant supply store).

hmm.. the Cuisinart and Emilware should be decent. Are there disdavantages to the anodized non stick sets?

Don't buy a full nonstick set. You can't make any pan sauces, browning is nearly impossible, can't use metal utensils, and the nonstick finish inevitably flakes off into your food. Stick with stainless if you're buying a set and buy a cheap medium sized nonstick pan for eggs and other sticky stuff. The stainless will last you virtually forever and you can toss the nonstick one regularly when the finish starts flaking off.

Nonstick sucks. Copper bottom stainless for me........

Edit: I do have quite a bit of Le Creuset cookware also......great stuff.

Yeah, stay away from non-stick. A bunch of stuff on teflon and health is common out now. Usually not a big deal but when a teflon lined pan gets old the stuff flakes off like crazy.

Not to mention that the production of Teflon produces toxic chemicals, and if Teflon gets too hot, it starts releasing toxic and carcinogenic gases. But, you know, it's profitable, so who cares.

I prefer stainless steel.
