I want to build my own desk

I'm looking at using the intereior door trick. The only thing I can't figure out is what to use for the legs. I don't really want to us file cabinets. One person I found used galvanized pipe conduits, but I'm not sure I like that either. Has anyone made a desk like this? What did you use for the legs? Any help will be appreciated!

Ahh the old interior door trick...

😕

Take a interior door slab, staned and varnished and it's one of the best looking desks you will ever see. It's exactly what I want in a desk. Large, flat and sturdy. You would never know it was a door untill someone told you.

Edit: Take away the crappy legs and this is what it will look like a door desk

this is what ya do:

buy some cinder blocks, buy a 3/4" 4' x 8' piece of plywood. stack up the cinder blocks to the height you want it, then lay your stuff on there. works perfectly 🙂 otherwise, get some 2 x 4s and the plywood and build a more traditional desk.

edit: spelling

now that i think about it, we had a door desk in our old apt.

we strapped two chains onto the corners of a sliding door and then attached the other corners and the chains to the wall. foldable goodness!

I built my desk cheaply out of a 6 foot section of countertop, a file cabinet, a small bookshelf, particle board, two by fours, and cheap nails.

It's surprisingly survived 4+ years of use. It even survived my move.

It is very very ugly, but very practical for my uses as it holds a bunch of crap on it.

LOL You have this kickass monitor on a shipping crate. Very nice 🙂 (That's the HP right?)

nope, it's the cheap "ilo" 27inch HDTV (Tatung display) ... got it when it hit $800 in April.

Hooked it up via DVI, it's great for games, but 1280x768 is a bit too low of a resolution for it's size for normal windows usage. Hopefully a similar sized 1080p model with DVI will be available for under $1000 within a year or two so I can sell this one and upgrade.
