I have a bunch of (around 100) computer CDs in those slim CD holders, and a few in the regular thick jewel cases. I want to build a cd tower. Any plans? The only thing I can't do is weld, no welder available. I do however have a good jigsaw and a great (Dewalt) drill, and some experience with wood. Metals I can do, but as I said before, I really don't have access to a welder... any ideas/plans?
Update: I have ~115 CDs.

I don't know if there are any guides out for specifically for a cd tower, but if you can't find one, try going to a store and finding one you like and then really observing it. If you forget easily like i do, then maybe you can buy one so that when you're building you have something to copy. Then when you're don, return the tower.

Interesting idea... I figure it'll be wide enough so it can fit one normal sized jewel case, or 2 slim line cases (great for apps that take 2 cds).

you could using bolts and aluminum for an "industrial" look...but aluminum is expensive.

I never really thought about a design like #2... this would let me put it into sections (Games, Apps, etc)...
EDIT: #8 might be good for left side apps, right side games... or something like that...

Umm, how about wood?

You could buy dowels and finish them. Make some squares of wood, and build it vertically. You could tilt the squares so the CD's stay put. Drat I have it in my head, but I dont know if it comes through. A base, then 4 dowels, a square at an angle, then dowels, square and on and on.

I kind of see what you mean, but I'd rather just keep them straight... less work that way. The only tools I have [easy] access to is a drill and a jigsaw.

Ok, I have it calculated. #8...
Each square is 6 inches wide (a standard thick jewel case is 3/8ths of an inch thick, 3/16s for slimline). The structural wood and the wooden divider down the middle is 1.25 inches thick, unless it's one and a half on the 2 outside supports and 1 inch for the divider...
