Ok, here it is. I ordered a Compaq Presario. It is a PIII 735, and isnt that bad (considering it is Compaq) BUT, the deal is that it comes with dsl. Well, it has an internal modem, with a green light. The light turns on or blinks when it is working, but the thing isnt on, and dsl wont work. The service IS activated, but neither compaq, or SWBELL can tell me why it wont work. Im being charged now for the service that i cant even use!! not only that, but if i want it fixed, i have to pay a tech to come and work on my computer, that they should have done right the first time. This is upsurd. Im just about ready to send pipe bombs

did whomever provides the DSL service give you anything like:

ip address
dns servers
etc,

or are you using ppoe?

Who actually set the service up?

There's probably some info you need to enter to get it working.

well, i called them and they said that the software was on the computer when it arrived (which it was) and that all that info should be fine. I dont know, BUT i got a dsl software cd, and when i tried to install it, it said that it was not compatible with winME, and that it would damage my system if i did so. This leads me to believe that they dont know what the hell they are doing.
