hmm, why do you want to stop?

not being able to stop eating meat may be a sign that you do not belong with that lifestyle.

i know i cannot be a vegetarian though i try not to eat too much meat.

you WANT it, but it looks like there is no motivation there. what are you reasons? health? or did you watch one of those propaganda videos put out by the PETA?

I'm a vegitarian. After a few weeks, you loose the desire to eat meat. Plus I like
alot of other food like pasta, curry, potatoes etc.

Oh I eat seafood though...i love seafood

Mmmm, ever look in the mirror? Notice that both of your eyes face front? That's so that you will have binocular vision which gives you depth perception. You NEED depth perception if you are a predator needing to suplement your diet with animal protein. Vegetarian animals (rabbits, cows, etc) have an eye on each side of their heads.... no binocular vision, but larger peripheral vision limits. This is so THEY have a better chance of seeing predators like US coming to try and eat them. :)

Humans are predators, and our bodies need a certain amount of animal protein. You CAN survive as a vegetarian, but managing a proper, non-deficient diet is much more difficult.

A lot of the stuff those PETA folks put out is simply Whacko... ;)

There are other sources of protein than meat. Some people argue that plant-based protein is eve superior to meat-based. Easier for your body to digest and utilize. Everybody that I've ever talked to that gave up eating meat said that they CANT eat it anymore. If they do, it makes them sick.

Pork and beef are the ones you want to stay away from the most. Fish is the best. Chicken is better, but still is meat.

See this thread:Snoogan's thread on eating healthy

BTW, Opinionated- That's absolute bullshit. Most Americans who eat the SAD(Standard American Diet) are malnutritioned, and they don't even know it! McDonalds is NOT food, it's empty calories. Like I said, plant-based proteins are superior to meat proteins.

The only REAL food is fruits and vegetables, plant matter. That's the ONLY thing you can eat that provides you with vitamins and minerals, enzymes, etc.

Again, see the above thread. I don't wan't to repeat myself more than I already have.

Here's a lovely tidbit.. I quote:

<< Authorities now agree that the average American Diet no longer provides the needed nutrition for a foundation of good health. Forty percent of middle class American children are severely malnourished, and adults fare far worse, upwards to 90%. ("Healing Nutrients", p 42-52, Patrick Quillin) >>

<< Half of all the foods eaten in America are overly processed convenience foods known to have little if any nutrient value. (Journal of the American Dietetic Association, vol. 81, p.35, July 1982, & vol. 86 p.339, March 1986. ) >>

Opinionated is opinionated but sometimes full of crap. The stereoscopic vision he claims is for hunting is actually there so you don't miss the limb you're about to swing from. What a chimp! :D Your sweet tooth is so you can be a smart vegetarian and eat fruit only when it's ripe. Chimps get pissed when the guy on the limb above gets the green apple quick stuff.

It's true. I am vegetarian for health reasons.

I was brought up as a heavy meat-eater (we raised our own cattle and chickens). I used to hate veggies as a kid.

Now, I have absolutely no desire to eat meat. I am on a totally plant-based diet (although I "cheated" the other day and ate non-fat cheese).

I don't eat "imitation" meat (tofu dogs and burgers). I just stick to vegetables. The tofu substitutes just don't taste like meat - but it might be good for a transition.

I make lots of salads, rice dishes (check out Indian Cooking), potatoes and yams, pesto and pasta dishes as well as lots of fruit, fruit and vegetable juices. I had homemade cheese enchiladas yesterday. I also make chili (beans and rice for complete protein) as well as raw seeds and nuts. Pizza can be vegetarian (many varieties of mushrooms, cheeses - including all tofu cheeses - cashew nuts, dried tomatoes and sauces, broccoli, etc.). Also check out Chinese cooking which relies on some great sauces for vegetarian cooking.

Then there are a variety of soups requiring no meat. Grains including oats are good for breakfast (Rice or Soy Milk or apple juice).

This is just off the top of my head - I am sure I can dig up more ideas

Taste is acquired. The variety of a vegetarian diet is astounding. So many people get stuck on meat and potatoes or burgers and fries.

EDIT: Enough of your Opinionated propaganda - "We need meat." That is totally FALSE. If we are true predators we would hunt and kill our own prey and eat it raw. Our intestinal tract is more like vegetarian animals. We tolerate meat - not thrive on it.

I'm not a vegetarian, but i'm working my way there. Same here, I ate really nothing but meat, potatoes and corn growing up. Blech, eating a plate full of that makes me sick now..

I had a Chicken sandwitch from BurgerKing today, because I was on the run, and hungry. It was good and all, but I felt aweful.. Hehe.. I told them to put extra lettuce and tomato on it, and it still hit like a rock..

Don't just quit at once...take it slowly...that's the best way to become a vegetarian if you're addicted to meat.

If you work out and stuff, protein bars/shakes are great supplements.

i suggest Indian food during the transition phase....they have some great
non-meat curry dishes. Also try the "Makhani"...great stuff.

If we were meant to eat only plants, we'd have a mouth full of molars. :p

It's all about balance, yin and yang. Chicken and fish are good for you, as is red meat IN MODERATION. And as others have said eating a MacD hamburger does not count as meat. That falls into the fat food group, or some other damn thing.

So how do you eat an apple with just molars. Next you'll be saying that we need all the protien that only meat provides even though that excess protien becomes toxic to the kidneys and your body balances this out with calcium. The most available source of calcium is your bones. We live in a country that eats more meat than any other country. In that same country we also have the highest rate of osteoperosis, a calcium deficency(sp?) disease. Hey maybe I should start eating meat again so I too can break my britle hip bones just by bumping into a wall.

You're assuming that humans should eat apples.

And didn't I mention something about balance? Sounds like you need a couple steps back from the lunatic fringe, bub.

Edit: Oh, and I eat plenty of meat, and always have. I've never broken a bone in my life despite being very physically active.

So? That's the same type of account as a smoker who lives to be 125.

Balance is good. That is why there are so many different nutrients from so many different types of fruits and vegetables. Also not everyone breaks a bone. I said highest rate.

I'm assuming nothing.

To quote a philosopher of our time:

<< I am what I am, and that's all that I am.

Toot toot.
>>

There seems to be a lot of meat hate in this thread. Third time's the charm I guess: It's all about balance.
