i actually had an experience similar to being a minority a month or so ago. i spent a day in fresno CA for work, and went to a large outdoor mall in downtown that was literally all latino shops. i was the only white person in the entire area (trust me, i was looking for another!). i went into a lot of shops there, and they had these sort of indoor markets made out of hollowed-out old department stores. it was really interesting to see a portion of what used to be anglo-american culture that had been utterly taken over by latino-american culture, leaving me, as a white person, as the odd one out. it felt uncomfortable at first, but then it just became an interesting learning experience.
